2024 Cup of China ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Kicks Off in Chongqing



(STUDIO MAO,Chongqing)On November 22, the 2024 Cup of China ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating officially opened at Chongqing Huaxi LIVE·Yudong.


Sixty skaters from 16 countries and regions gathered to present a stunning ice show that seamlessly blends technical mastery with artistic expression, and power with grace, showcasing the spirit of sportsmanship and determination to the world.


The event opened with a rousing performance of Chuanjiang Haozi (a traditional river chant), setting the tone for the competition.


The program ingeniously combined this centuries-old national intangible cultural heritage with winter sports elements, celebrating the inheritance and innovation of Chinese culture while illuminating the brilliance of ice and snow sports. The arena was adorned with flags from around the globe, symbolizing harmony and diversity.


On the ice, skaters performed elegant routines with fluid spins, jumps, and glides, earning thunderous applause and cheers from the audience.


The Cup of China, an international Grade A competition organized by the International Skating Union (ISU), features three days of events. November 22 and 23 are designated competition days, with medals being awarded in men's singles, women's singles, pairs, and ice dance.


On November 24, skaters will shift the focus from competition to artistry, delivering unique and expressive gala performances, adding a celebratory finale to the intense contests.


China began hosting stops of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating in 2003, and this year marks the 21st anniversary of the Grand Prix in the country. The event has previously been held in cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Harbin, and Chongqing, significantly contributing to the promotion and popularization of figure skating in China.


This year’s competition marks the fourth time the Cup of China has been held in Chongqing, following its successful editions in 2019, 2020, and 2023.


The 2024 Cup of China represents a new chapter for figure skating in China, igniting further passion for sports development and showcasing the nation’s dynamic energy on the global stage.
